Anemon (Anemone) – 201

According to the legend, Adonis, a mortal, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love were madly in love with each other. But this love became the victim of the jealousy of Aphrodite’s ex-lover Ares, the god of war. One day, while Adonis was out hunting Ares shoots him. Although Aphrodite runs to rescue him, Adonis dies by the time she reaches him. In a ceremony Aphrodite rubs her lover’s body with scents and embraces him while carrying him to the land of the dead. Meanwhile, the beautiful scents coming from Adonis’ body mix with his blood and spills onto the earth, each drop becoming a beautiful flower as it hits the soil. This flower was named Anemone in memory of Adonis and Aphrodite’s love.
